Mobile devices are rapidly becoming the go to device to browse the Internet, to socialise, acquire information or to shop. It’s also becoming increasingly more difficult to run a business these days without a website. With all this in mind it is imperative your business needs a website, especially a mobile responsive website.

If you’re still unsure exactly what benefits your business would gain from a mobile responsive website, here are five reasons why you should seriously consider it:

1. Your website needs to look good and be user friendly on any device.

User friendly means not needing to zoom in and out to read a web page and to easily navigate through the site. When a visitor finds that the website doesn’t work well on a mobile device, they are less likely to come back to that site, even if they are using a laptop or desktop computer at another time. UPDATE: Google now has a free mobile-friendly search tool that will tell you if you’re current site is responsive or not.

2. Don’t lose search engine ranking.

Back in June 2012, the world’s largest search engine Google came to the conclusion that websites needed to be mobile responsive. Google says it will not help in search engine rankings. However, they do say that some websites have lost search engine ranking because search bots detected configuration errors related to displaying on smart devices. UPDATE: Since April 2015, Google insists that all websites should be ‘mobile-friendly’ which WILL help with your ranking in Google’s mobile search results.

3. Position your company to rank as high as possible.

By 2015, consumers will use their mobile devices to make over 50 percent of their Internet searches. Today, that number is somewhere between 30 and 40 percent. You want your website to rank just as high on mobile device searches as it does on searches done on laptops or desktops. By converting to mobile friendly design, you will position your company to rank as high as possible for any kind of search a consumer makes. UPDATE: The number of smartphone users worldwide will surpass 2 billion in 2016, according to new figures. And by 2018, over one-third of consumers worldwide, or more than 2.56 billion people, will have one. Why would you not optimise your website for mobile users?

4. Don’t lose customers to your competition.

People can access all your content from anywhere and on any device they have. All text, videos, audio, and images need to be mobile friendly. When people find even part of a website non-mobile friendly, they are more likely to go elsewhere.

5. Happy customers will return.

If you offer a mobile-friendly website, you will increase the amount of time people are willing to spend on your website. Because your site is attractive to people using all types of browsing devices, you will see people staying longer. That increases the chances of them wanting to become a lead or a paying customer. Any problems will stop their visit and make them less likely to return.
