Letterpress printing has been around for hundreds of years but I’ve never had the opportunity to create artwork for it before. So I was really excited when I was asked to create the stationery for Mike & Becky’s wedding.
They wanted them to be a bit different than usual so I had to introduce them to the letterpress style of printing. Sure enough they were won over straight away. Letterpress is when the paper is pressed to create a tactile crisp print with a deboss in the stock, which looks great.
Becky and Mike also wanted a quirky map creating for the back of the invites, which I think was a great idea. The backs also had a blind deboss to them. This is when no ink is used and a subtle impression is created.
As well as the invites they also required an RSVP card, a Gift card and a Directions & Accommodation card to complement the invites. Due to the manual process of letterpress, the printing cost is considerably higher than that of digital or lithographic printing. So these were printed full colour to keep the cost down!
Stock used was 425gsm Saunders High White, 100% Cotton.
